Gloaming, Nowhere is a neo-Appalachian patchwork kaleidoscopic collage, blending the old and the new, brimming with a sense of mystic adventure. Writer and performer J.S. Streible inhabits the enigmatic Storyteller, who welcomes us to Nowhere. Upon our arrival, he redefines the possibilities of a one-person musical integrating multiple characters, poetry, lyrical dialogue and southern pop songs played on various instruments. An indelible experience.
Streible has brought together previously unrelated works of poetry, microfiction and song to form a fantastical narrative. Originally a self-taught singer-songwriter and musician, he, along with songs in tow, spent the better part of a decade entertaining audiences from streets to stages all across the country. The storytelling devices are informed by centuries of oral tradition from Appalachian Yarn-spinners to English Minstrels to West African Griots. The presentation is heavily inspired by Boston’s Brother Blue. “Big Fish,” Beckett, Brothers Grimm.
