Karen is placed not only on legal trial, but on spiritual and psychological trial, pursued by desire, guilt, memory, and threatening forces beyond the visible world. And in the play’s most thrilling device, the audience itself becomes the jury; drawn into the trial, implicated in the verdict, and forced to decide what kind of truth they believe.
