In 1930s California, Filipino farmworker Magno Rubio is saving for a new life with a woman he knows only through letters. His friends are not so sure she is worth the sacrifice. But in a world that pays them little and tells them they do not belong, Magno refuses to give up his dream. Loosely inspired by Carlos Bulosan’s short story “The Romance of Magno Rubio,” this new musical brings the men of a migrant labor camp to life through music, sharp humor, and the uneasy bonds of friendship. Love and the struggle for a fair day’s pay collide as Magno discovers just how much a future can cost.
