One of the seminal artists of our time, Paul Taylor continues to shape the homegrown American art of modern dance that he has helped define since becoming a professional dancer and pioneering choreographer in 1954.

The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center
celebrates its 11th consecutive season of performances by the Taylor Company at its Berkshires home.

Program:
Gossamer Gallants
With movement inspired by blue-bottle flies, dragonflies and other insects, the comedic dance compares mating rituals of the insect world with that of humans.

Concertiana
New England premiere. Set to a violin concerto by contemporary composer Eric Ewazen, Concertiana contrasts agitated and explosive solos and duets with slower-moving groups in silhouette, suggesting the full range of human emotions.

Company B
Just as America began to emerge from the Depression at the dawn of the 1940s, the country was drawn into the Second World War. In a seminal piece of Americana, Paul Taylor recalls that turbulent era through the hit songs of the Andrews Sisters.
