Rondan Los Deseos (Circle of Desire) is a show first created by Noche Flamenca’s Artistic Director and Co-founder Martin Santangelo and Co-founder Soledad Barrio for Joe's Pub in 2016.
Since then, Santangelo and Barrio have transformed and developed the show at various venues, including The Joyce Theater in February 2018. Originally inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's play La Ronde, the pair have implemented variations inspired by Ingmar Bergman's Persona, Amiri Baraka's The Dutchman, pianist James Booker, and other influences.
This present incarnation includes new duets, trios, and other musical numbers. Each iteration is brand new. Santangelo and Barrio are thrilled to be joined by dancers Antonio 'El Chupete' Rodriguez, Marina Elana, Carlos Menchaca for this run. This piece is rooted in traditional flamenco but uses the genre to search for a profound truth in relationships. Santangelo is thrilled to bring this production back full-circle to where it was born at Joe's Pub.
Rondan Los Deseos was developed at Luis Valdez's legendary El Teatro Campesino in San Juan Bautista, California

"Soledad Barrio, the company's lead dancer...seemed possessed by smoldering, do-or-die flamenco passion...An entire evening of her dancing would probably fill the city's coronary wards. Martin Santangelo, the company's founder and director, achieves a remarkable balance between the new and the old in his savvy staging program.
