A tragedy of jealousy and racial animosity in Venetian Cyprus.
The production depicts a society where Christians and Muslims are deeply divided. As Othello progresses, Shakespeare shifts the focus from the enemy outside to the enemy within. Although the backdrop is political, Othello is a domestic tragedy about the formation and destruction of a marriage. Within the play's politics is a profound story of men and women.
NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award winner Sam Gold will return to NYTW to direct David Oyelowo (Royal Shakespeare Company’s The Histories, Selma, Queen of Katwe) in the title role and Daniel Craig (Betrayal, Spectre) as ‘Iago’ in William Shakespeare’s Othello.
PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & SUNDAY @ 7 PM
THURSDAY thru SATURDAY @ 8 PM
SATURDAY & SUNDAY @ 2 PM
