The Capitol Steps: America's Premiere Political Musical Satire Troupe is a political comedy show that offers a mix of song and standup, lampooning modern political leaders and taking on the major issues of the day. Originally made up of congressional staffers, the past 2 decades have seen the "Steps" harvest the talent of finely tuned musical-theatre professionals from around the country.
Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded 35 albums, including the soon to be released, "Orange Is The New Barack."
The group was born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin. So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor.
