Baby Universe is an original piece of theatre presented with over 30 puppets, a Stephen Hawking inspired robot, animated video projection and a space-age score.

Set in the apocalyptic future, where the angry sun is in his final days; the planets are scorched and the few remaining souls live primarily in bunkers and have resorted to cannibalism. In a race against the clock, scientists are generating baby universes in the hope that one might birth a planet that can support the relocation of the entire population. This is the tale of “Baby Universe 7001” – the ultimate savior, the last hope for deliverance, the messenger on whom the fate of humankind rests.

Reviews

  • ...what counts most here is Wakka Wakka's artful constellation of starring creatures. In Baby Universe, all the production elements float wonderfully adrift in an orbit of whimsy.

    ----Village Voice
  • Anything but cute and cuddly, Baby Universe is startlingly moving, blending dark humor with a dystopian vision and messianic allegory. And while there are some narrative missteps, the captivating puppet imagery—ranging from 7,001's haloed Bunraku-style mother to the hulking crimson sun, a full-bodied construction with glowing yellow eyes—more than makes up for it. In this affecting universe, the puppets might just be the brightest stars of all.

    ----TimeOut NY
  • Like all good puppet shows, this one inspires a childlike sense of wonder as these unlikely characters become real and expressive
