Jazz has always had a place on the Broadway stage, from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess to After Midnight. This spring as part of our Jazz & American Song season, we present the music of Broadway from the point of view of some of today's best jazz musicians.

BROADWAY TO HARLEM

Rose Theater

Pianist Bill Charlap embarks on a swinging tour through the heart of New York City via musical theater, jazz, and the blues. Featuring vocalists Cécile McLorin Salvant and Freddy Cole, saxophonist Houston Person, clarinetist Ken Peplowski, drummer Kenny Washington, and bassist Peter Washington.

THE GREAT JAZZ STANDARDS

Michael Feinstein explores how songs originally written for film and stage, such as "Body & Soul" and "Stardust," became jazz classics. Joining him will be the Tedd Firth Big Band and guest vocalists Marilyn Maye, Freda Payne, and Veronica Swift.

SWINGING SONGS OF BROADWAY

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and vocalist Kate Davis perform the music of Broadway's greatest composers Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Stephen Sondheim, and more.

A RIGHT TO SING THE BLUES

May 11 • 7 PM; May 12 • 7 PM & 9 PM

Michael Feinstein demonstrates how the blues became part of the popular musical lexicon with writers like George Gershwin and Harold Arlen. Joining him will be the Tedd Firth Big Band and guest vocalists Storm Large and Mary Stallings.
