As the Cotton Blossom docks at Natchez, Mississippi, follow Cap'n Andy Hawks and his extended family on a journey of love and heartbreak.

Revolutionary for its exploration of serious themes such as racism, Show Boat blends humanity and humor with plenty of hit tunes including "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" and "Make Believe."

“Show Boat is based on the classic novel by Pulitzer-Prize winning author Edna Ferber. Her story took a clear-eyed, revolutionary look at the sprawling, messy society of the post-Emancipation years, the Industrial Revolution, and the conflicts between the North and South—issues still with us today. Kern wrapped it in joyous and heart-breaking songs that have become part of the fabric of our lives"  - – Francesca Zambello, director

    General parking is located across the street from the Alice Busch Opera Theater. Handicapped parking is available on the same side of the street as the theater, and golf cart shuttles travel from the handicapped parking area to the front of the theater

    Family and handicapped-accessible bathrooms are available.

    Interpreters and braille programs are available if requested in advance. Please contact the Box Office at (607) 547-2255 at least three weeks in advance of your visit

    Large-print program books are available upon request. Supertitles with English translations are provided for all subscription-based operas. The lyrics for musicals are also projected above the stage.
