Theater Description

The Margaret Williams Theatre, located in Hepburn Hall on the main campus of New Jersey City University, is a 1,026 seat proscenium theatre venue. Opened in 1931 as an addition to the only building on the campus at that time, the theatre was originally designed as a combination auditorium and gymnasium. In 1968 it was extensively renovated for exclusive use as a theatre and dedicated to long-time faculty member Margaret D. Williams. A dedicatory plaque is located in the theatre lobby. In 1998 the theatre was renovated once again, with upgrading of the audience area and repair of the elaborate plasterwork. The Margaret Williams Theatre is the home of University theatrical productions and concerts presented by the Department of Music, Dance & Theatre. It also hosts lectures, films and numerous University and community events and ceremonies throughout the year.
