Long before Hamilton or 1776 there was another revolutionary Broadway musical: Ben Franklin in Paris, featuring music by Mark Sandrich, Jr. and a book and lyrics by Sidney Michaels. Although it had a decent run and starred Robert Preston as the title Founding Father, it hasn’t been heard much since. In honor of our nation’s big birthday, Tony nominee Walter Willison is giving it a concert staging featuring up-and-comers and his fellow Tony nominee Timothy Jerome. Extraordinary: Broadway Sings for Aaron Lazar

Beloved Broadway vet Aaron Lazar went public with his ALS battle two years ago. Earlier this year, his family launched a GoFundMe to cover the ever-increasing expenses due to his illness. That’s why last month NJ’s Axelrod Performing Arts Center, where he once starred in an acclaimed production of The Bridges of Madison County, presented a starry benefit to raise money for Lazar’s care. His Madison County costar and good friend, two-time Tony nominee Kate Baldwin, hosted this wonderful concert featuring performances by two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz, Miguel Cervantes, two-time Tony winner Victoria Clark, Katie Rose Clarke, Mandy Gonzalez, Marc Kudisch, Kara Lindsay, Christiane Noll, Bryce Pinkham, Patrick Wilson, Tony Yazbek and many other musical theatre favorites. National Theatre at Home: Teeth ‘N’ Smiles

Rebecca Lucy Taylor, aka British alt-pop star Self Esteem, headlines the 50th anniversary revival of David Hare’s rock ‘n’ roll play Teeth ‘N’ Smiles, about a band falling apart in 1975 as the rebellious yet optimistic spirit of the late 1960s comes to a dispiriting end. Featuring songs by Nick and Tony Bicât along with a new one by Taylor, this well-received production was recorded live onstage earlier this year.
