Attention modern dance lovers: Brooklyn-bred dancer, choreographer and teacher, Shamel Pitts, is bringing his multimedia piece Black Box: Little Black Book of Red to Gibney Dance Center May 31 to June 2. It's a raw and personal work about the search for identity that incorporates spoken word, video and evocative lighting. We chatted with Pitts about his creative process and he even broke down a few of his singular moves.
This video is the final installment in our exclusive, behind-the-scene series about downtown dance hub Gibney. We've enjoyed giving you an insider's look at this venerable performing arts organization -- it's a view most audiences never get to see.
