Sylvester, was an American disco and soul singer-songwriter who mixed the fervor of gospel music with modern dance music to create a mind-blowing musical explosion.

Known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, he was often described as a drag queen, although he repeatedly rejected such a description. Responsible for a string of hit singles including "Dance: Disco Heat, and "Do you Wanna Funk?", Sylvester became known in the United States under the moniker of the "Queen of Disco"." These songs have stood the test of time STILL moving you and sweating you and spanking you in dance clubs all over the world!

As the great producer, Narada Michael Walden once said, "It don't get no better!"

Reviews

  • Anybody who’s ever listened to WKTU, danced at a disco, marched in a gay-pride parade or watched “Project Runway” should get a ticket to “Mighty Real.”

    -----New York Post
  • Ninety minutes of the grooviest, gutsiest and fiercest disco anthems anyone with a taste for mirrorball nostalgia will appreciate soon follow. From the moment he appears in a sequined top, platform heels and a floor-length fur coat, Broadway veteran Anthony Wayne embodies the starring role with a boulder-crunching zeal that echoes Hugh Jackman's Tony-winning turn as Peter Allen in "The Boy from Oz."

    ---- Huffington Post
  • And while his performance naturally dominates the show, Mr. Wayne has ample musical support from a vocally superb supporting cast: Anastacia McCleskey and Jacqueline B. Arnold portray Izora Rhodes Armstead and Martha Wash, who began as Sylvester’s big-boned backup singers and later went on to make their own hefty splash on the dance floor as the Weather Girls with their immortal hit “It’s Raining Men.” (The audience might tear apart the seats if this beloved disco chestnut had not been heard, and so it is.)
