Homecoming King, the story of the “New Brown America,” is based on true events from Minhaj’s first generation Indian-American experience.
Navigating between two worlds, it follows Minhaj’s arrival in the US, meeting his estranged sister, interracial love, racism, bullying, and his family’s quest to achieve the elusive American Dream.

"I'm trying to have a nuanced conversation about bigotry, acceptance, and forgiveness, even though these subjects can be embarrassing," said Minhaj in a press statement
. "We all know morality and life aren't black or white...they're Drake. When it comes to racism, hopefully this show will help us have a real discussion and get our '50 Shades of Drake' on. I'll share my stories which hopefully will inspire others to share theirs."
