The Band's Visit, a critically acclaimed new musical arrives direct from a sold-out Off- Broadway engagement where it was hailed as, "A place you want to visit if you're looking for signs of new and exciting life in the contemporary American musical" (Ben Brantley, The New York Times).

An Egyptian Police Band arrives in Israel to play a concert. After a mix-up at the border, they are sent to a remote village in the middle of the desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways. The Band's Visit celebrates the deeply human ways music and laughter connect us all.

Reviews

  • “The Band’s Visit” takes place in the desert and, like a mirage, it shimmers. But better. Because this hushed, heart-melting musical is real — and truly magical.
  • Finally, a new musical that offers not one anthem. Better yet, there’s not one over-amplified caterwauling power ballad. Composer David Yazbek chooses instead to seduce with music and lyrics that slyly slip into our consciousness through an inspired repetition, with melodies unfolding to make the spirit both ache and soar.
  • With songs by David Yazbek and a script by Itamar Moses, “The Band’s Visit” is a Broadway rarity seldom found these days outside of the canon of Stephen Sondheim: an honest-to-God musical for grown-ups. It is not a work to be punctuated with rowdy cheers and foot-stomping ovations, despite the uncanny virtuosity of Mr. Yazbek’s benchmark score.
