Acquittal focuses on four women in a Pakistan prison during the 1980’s - Zahida, a lawyer-activist; Mariam, a victim of rape; Jannat Bibi, trying to save her son; and Jamila accused of murder - and how they unite solidarity to overcome injustice.

The play was inspired by playwright Shahid Nadeem’s own imprisonment as young man.
