Wake…Sing… is an original performance work based on Clifford Odets’ 1935 play “Awake and Sing”…and zombies. (Contemporary zombie film and biblical texts about the resurrection of the dead).

Set in a vandalized cemetery as the dead begin to rise, Wake…Sing… is a meditation on “Wokeness” and “wakefulness”; a genre bending performance about the tension between middle-class aspiration and revolutionary vision.

“Awake and Sing” is the story of a second generation, Jewish family living in the Bronx during the depression, waking up from the American dream. Odets borrows the title of his play from the biblical prophet Isiah’s description of the resurrection of the dead at the beginning of the messianic era. It is both literal, and a metaphor for personal and collective awakening and resurrection.
