Preaching the word to thousands in football stadiums and evangelizing undercover in China, amidst 30 years of door-knocking, and all the while the sound of sexuality was knocking loudly upon his own door. Escaping from a high-control religious group is not as simple as walking away. It is a waking-up process that can take years. This one-man autobiographical show navigates such an exit and the subsequent delirium of walking into a forbidden world.

Awake, Gay, and Writing a Play comes to New York after a 21 performance run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023.
