Lucas O'Neil built his stand-up career talking about his family on stage. Now, they'd like him to stop. And, he will—right after this show.

In one final airing of grievances, Lucas will examine his anxious family, his role within it and how it all changed after his mother’s passing. Over the course of a rapid hour (57 minutes), Lucas outlines his mother’s gift for worrying, his father’s for over-preparing and his own gift for looking a lot like the young men they cast as Spiderman.

As the show unfurls, what presents as a pure standup set makes room for something more. Layered amidst witty observations of male friendship and stories of being forced to shoot guns in the South, Lucas earnestly unpacks his struggle to connect with men (despite, by all accounts, being one) and the ways gender expectations, comedy and grief can push us apart, far easier than they pull us together.

Emotional Man is a witty and insightful examination of the people and places that shape who we are and who we become without them.
