The Fantasticks, by Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt, is the world's longest running musical - running for over 52 years in Manhattan and entrancing generations of audiences the world over.

The musical tells the story of a young boy and girl who fall madly in love at the hands of their meddling fathers, but soon grow restless and stray from one another. Will their separation provide a deeper appreciation for the love they once shared or create a permanent gulf between them?

The Fantasticks is the quintessential celebration of love, in all its gorgeous simplicity and heartbreaking complexities, and features such classic tunes as "Try To Remember," "Much More," and "I Can See It."

Reviews

  • The truly gripping love story of “The Fantasticks” is not that of the Boy and Girl at the plot’s center but of the undying affection lavished on this bauble of a musical by Mr. Jones, Mr. Schmidt, Mr. Baker and the producer Lore Noto, who through sheer devotion and tenacity turned it into the Little Show That Wouldn’t Die.

  • "The eight-actor musical is as fresh and charming as it always has been, and looks as if it should remain so for the next millennium or two. Try to remember how much you loved The Fantasticks the first time around? Not necessary. It's all here again, right before your astonished eyes. That goes for first-timers, too!"

    - David Finkle, Theatermania
  • "It's easy to dismiss the deceptively fragile charms of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's chamber musical as quaint relics of a simpler time. But though the musical premiered in 1960, the original record-breaking production ran through January 13, 2002, so the show's themes of young love, disillusionment, and reconciliation clearly strike an empathetic chord for all times. The Fantasticks is back a mere four-and-a-half years after closing, playing in an intimate space that approximates to a remarkable degree the ambience of the late Sullivan Street Playhouse, the show's Greenwich Village birthplace. Songs like "I Can See It," "Soon It's Gonna Rain," and "Much More" register as engagingly as ever."
