New York Theatre Workshop's acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along transfers to Broadway after a sold-out run. Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez star as three artists in the entertainment biz whose turbulent, three-decade friendship is told in reverse. An inventive cult classic ahead of its time, Merrily We Roll Along features some of Sondheim's most celebrated and personal songs. Tickets are for Saturday, December 16 at 8 p.m. at the Hudson Theatre.
Two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster (Anything Goes, The Music Man) stars in a new mounting of the classic musical Once Upon a Mattress, a zany riff on The Princess and the Pea about an unapologetic free spirit who's let loose in a repressed kingdom. Led by Encores! artistic director Lear deBessonet (Into the Woods, Lionel Bart’s Oliver!), this concert staging was adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Gilmore Girls) and features a glorious score by Mary Rodgers and Marshall Barer, including the songs "Shy," "In a Little While" and "Happily Ever After."
International singing sensation Josh Groban (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) and Tony Award winner Annaleigh Ashford (You Can’t Take It With You, Sunday in the Park with George) star in Sweeney Todd on Broadway. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s landmark musical thriller tells the tale of a resourceful pie shop owner and a vengeful barber out for blood who form an unlikely partnership. Together, they wreak havoc on Fleet Street and serve up the hottest—and most unsettling—pies in London. Thomas Kail (Hamilton, In the Heights) directs this Tony-nominated revival featuring a 26-piece orchestra.
Inspired by the irreverent film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot returns to Broadway following a sold-out run at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Seated at the round table are a royal court of jesters filled with Tony winners, nominees and Broadway favorites including Christopher Fitzgerald, James Monroe Iglehart, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Ethan Slater and Michael Urie.
Berlin, 1927. Six remarkably talented young men form the singing group The Comedian Harmonists and become international sensations. They sell millions of records, star in major motion pictures and play the biggest theatres around the world. By 1935, they were never heard from again. What happened? That's the extraordinary true story of Harmony. Featuring an original score by Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Barry Manilow with a book and lyrics by his longtime collaborator Bruce Sussman, Harmony is a timely and captivating rags-to-riches story with a sensational cast of Broadway favorites, including Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera), Julie Benko (Funny Girl) and Chip Zien (Into the Woods). Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle (The Music Man, Hello, Dolly!) directs and choreographs.
