Artist-in-Residence Eric Owens has created a powerful evening of music by Gershwin, Joplin, Mahler, and more to celebrate four American legends — Marian Anderson, William Warfield, Betty Allen, and George Shirley — and their legacies with the Philharmonic. The bass-baritone and special guest artists pay tribute to those who paved the way before them through music and archival video footage.

PROGRAM:
Joplin - Selections from Treemonisha
Mahler - Selections from Songs of a Wayfarer
Traditional - Spirituals tba
Verdi - “Ingemisco” from Requiem
Gershwin - Selections from Porgy and Bess
J.S. Bach/arr. Gounod - “Ave Maria”
Kern -“Ol’ Man River” from Showboat
Copland - “Simple Gifts” from Old American Songs
