Now in its 5th year, the SheNYC Summer Theater Festival showcases the work of the best up-and-coming women-identifying writers and composers in the industry. These are the 7 shows that made it to the top of our open submissions process, as well as an 8th piece written from scratch for the festival by a returning playwright! In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all performances in 2020 will be digital! When you register for a performance, you will be emailed a private link to live-stream the video a few hours before the performance time.*Please make sure you select the correct date and time of the performance you want to view! Please note that all performance times are in Eastern Time (NYC).*
The 2020 SheNYC Shows are:
JULY 22, 8pm: Intentions by Allison Svagdis An honest play about realizing the only way to get rid of your demons is to face them -- inside and out.
JULY 23, 8pm: Scar Tissue by Victoria Fragnito Best friends Jessica and Sam each have scars from their pasts that haven't healed. After years of denial, an impromptu lunch date and a surprise overnight guest forces them both to confront these wounds and face what they didn’t want to see head-on.
JULY 24, 8pm: over easy by Abaigeal O'Donnell "over easy" follows four egg donors from recruitment to extraction, as they learn that donating eggs is not always what it's cracked up to be.
JULY 25, 8pm: StartUp by Larissa Kruesi Set against the backdrop of a newly founded startup company, StartUp tells the story of young women growing up and growing apart.
JULY 26, 7pm: Pouf! by Lou Clyde The year is 1958 and Betty finds herself unfulfilled as a housewife. With the encouragement of her sister, Betty secretly sets up an in-home salon, leveraging her prowess with hairspray and bobby pins. Pouf! is an “uplifting” comedy with big hair and even bigger laughs.
JULY 30, 8pm: Fatchley by Zoe Kamil After a public nervous breakdown, Brooklyn actress Reina is determined to make a comeback. But she and her boyfriend Clay embark on career-changing projects, they discover that the pain, legacy, and power that dictated their past isn’t as far removed as they would like to believe.
JULY 31, 8pm: Pride & Prejudice, a new musical by Sam Caps & Annie Dillon It's the story so many know and love: five sisters navigate courtship in a socially restrictive Regency world. Chaos ensues, but love triumphs in the end -- for some. Pride and Prejudice is a contemporary and irreverent reimagining of a classic.
AUGUST 1, 8pm: The New Play Residency, title TBD, by Charlotte Ahlin Dungeons. Dragons. Drama. A fantastical new screen capture comedy.
