ABOUT TDF: WHAT DO WE DO? from Theatre Development Fund (tdf) on Vimeo.

In the same way that a theatre needs an audience, to do what we do, we need you.

Theatre Development Fund is dedicated to building current and future generations of audiences, ensuring that theatre is affordable and accessible to all, while strengthening the performing arts industry. Through programs that promote access, education and conversation, we ensure an enduring appreciation of and engagement with theatre. Since 1968, TDF has provided nearly 87 million people with access to Broadway, Off Broadway, off-Off Broadway, dance and music performances at affordable prices, and has returned over $2.3 billion in revenue to thousands of productions.

Perhaps best known for our TKTS Discount Booths in Duffy Square, South Street Seaport and downtown Brooklyn, TDF is an essential part of New York City's cultural life. We serve a broad segment of the population ranging from school children who may be attending a Broadway show for the very first time, to young people and adults with physical and sensory disabilities, to general audiences including our members and TKTS patrons who cannot afford to pay full price for a ticket.

In recognition of our contributions to New York's cultural life, TDF was awarded the 2011 Mayor's Award for Arts & Culture, a 2012 Ellen Stewart Award for our contributions to the off-Off Broadway community and a 2013 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work for our contributions to Off Broadway.  Additionally, the Open Doors program - a program co-founded by playwright Wendy Wasserstein - was the first arts education program to receive a Tony Honors for Excellence in Theater in 2012.
