Don’t miss Tony Award winners Kelli O’Hara and Victoria Clark, and rising opera stars Elliot Madore, Anna Christy, and Sarah Mesko, in a semi-staged version of Henry Purcell’s tempestuous Baroque opera Dido and Aeneas, featuring the singers of MasterVoices, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and Doug Varone and Dancers.

Dido, the widowed Queen of Carthage, entertains the Trojan Prince Aeneas, shipwrecked on his way to Italy, where he will found a new Troy. Dido and Aeneas are in love. Witches plot Dido’s destruction and the Sorceress conjures a storm, to break out when the royal couple are hunting, and the impersonation of Mercury by one of her coven.

Formerly known as The Collegiate Chorale, MasterVoices has been “a valuable part of the New York music scene” (The New York Times) for nearly 75 years. In partnership with City Center, the group will bring Purcell’s opera and a world premiere prologue composed by Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, First Daughter Suite) to spellbinding life this April.
