Founded in 1999, Lydia Johnson Dance has been consistently praised for its distinctive choreography, which uses components of ballet woven seamlessly into a contemporary dance vocabulary.

An exciting program of 4 contemporary dance works in Ms. Johnson's unique vocabulary which stems from a ballet base.

The evening includes a premiere for 3 couples and 10 women set to Phillip Glass piano works. Craig Hall, former New York City Ballet soloist and current NYCB Ballet Master, will dance in the 2013 Night and Dreams set to Schubert Lieder.

Tender and evocative duets and solos are embedded into a stream of ensemble passages in this haunting and poignant work. Mr. Hall will dance several pas-de-deux with LJD Principal dancer Laura DiOrio. The program includes 2 additional pieces set to music by Henryk Gorecki and the trio sonatas of Handel.

“What seems to count most for Ms. Johnson is music. The four pieces on the program all showed uncommon skill at matching ballet movement to music, both at the large scale of structure and in small, felicitous details.” --Brian Seibert, The New York Times
